Osmosis Inspection and moisture measurement from a GRP boat or yacht

Are you interested in buying a polyester sailing or motor yacht? If so, it is very important to ensure that the hull is free of osmosis. Osmosis is a well-known and frequently occurring phenomenon that usually manifests itself exclusively in the hull of a polyester sailing or motor yacht. Technically, it also matters which form or phase of osmosis has been detected in the hull. This aspect greatly determines the amount of possible repair costs.

Emotionally and commercially, all kinds of osmosis are significant value-reducing factors that also render the particular sailing or motor yacht much less marketable.
To put it even more strongly, you cannot purchase a polyester sailing or motor yacht without first performing a thorough osmosis inspection. If you do this at the right time, you then often still have the opportunity to cancel the order or settle the repair costs together with the purchase costs.

Blonk Jachtexpertise specialises in performing osmosis inspections. To this end, we possess high-quality moisture meters that are able to measure deep (and non-destructively) into the polyester laminate. This removes the need to store the yacht on dry land for a prolonged amount of time and allows for a hull inspection already in the crane. This will save you both time and money. Any blemish of osmosis is clearly visible on a wet hull but may fade if the yacht is kept ashore for a while.

Osmosis inspections by Blonk jachtexpertise include:

· Moisture measurements and osmosis tests on the hull below water line;
· A delamination inspection of the hull below water line;
· An assessment of the rudder blade and skeg for osmosis and delamination;
· An assessment of the propeller quality;
· An assessment of the propeller shaft and outboard propeller shaft bearings;
· An assessment of sail drive and outboard upstream rubber;
· A sail drive assessment;

Osmosis inspections will at all times be concluded by discussing key findings and conclusions in a meeting with the client and other possible stakeholders. You will receive a detailed written report within a few days after the inspection.
