Engine inspection, the technical survey of a motor- or sailing yacht

If you decide not to carry out a full purchase inspection, but would like to have more certainty about the condition of the engine, you should perform an engine inspection. As a marine engineering company, Blonk Jachtexpertise has gained a lot of professional experience in dealing with the most varied types of marine engines. At Blonk Jachtexpertise, the label ‘Engine inspection’ does not cover the entirety of our service, as we inspect more than just the engine. Because many engine failures and problems are actually caused by installations around the engine, we perform checks on all inspectable components of the propulsion system:

· Engine arrangement, including the engine bedplate and vibration dampers
· Head gasket leak test
· Fuel lines
· Fuel tank filling and venting lines
· Air filter
· Exhaust system
· Cooling water systems, including an anti-freeze test of closed liquid cooling systems
· Lubricating oil system
· Engine wiring
· V-belts and pulleys
· Engine control panel
· Dynamo, including a measurement of the charging current and voltage
· The starting battery, with a battery analysis
· Reverse gear
· Thrust bearing
· Propulsion system alignment

The performance and functioning of the complete propulsion system will be assessed both visually and aurally during a trial run. Additionally, various measurements of temperatures and pressures will be made with the help of advanced measuring equipment. The subsequent findings will be reported upon completion of the engine inspection. If there is a need to further examine the engine after the inspection, the engine inspection can then be expanded with a lubricant oil analysis, compression measurement or endoscopy.
The engine inspection shall include a written report that states both the conclusion, findings, readings and recommendations.
